Triang TT model railway collection for sale

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

I’m told that clearing out the cupboards, making room, getting rid is now known as life-laundry. Well my small nod to life-laundry has been to put my Triang TT model railway collection up for sale. It goes under the hammer at Fellows & Sons auction house on 25th August (lot number 533, estimate £300 - 400). You can see details and download the sale catalogue here.

The collection includes locomotives and rolling stock (inc. boxed items), track (inc. a large quantity of points), buildings, controllers/rectifiers/transformers, related literature and other items. The photographs below give a flavour of what’s on offer.

Edgbaston MP Gisela Stuart had agreed to donate to the appeal and on 22nd May she visited St. Joseph’s Home to present a cheque to Sister Frances. The money was a fee paid to her by a survey company - so here’s a parliamentarian who puts expenses to good use!

She asked about the ride route and I told her that it would take in Dieppe where I watched, on television in a small bar/tabac, the football world cup in 1966. We agreed to differ over that goal…

She was being ’shadowed’ that day by a Birmingham Post reporter and a photographer. See the Press & Publicity page for the full article.

Bob’s on his bike…

…in aid of The Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Joseph’s Home, Harborne, Birmingham.

For nearly 135 years the Little Sisters of the Poor have ministered to the aged and infirm at their voluntary aided convent and residential home in Harborne. Now in these times of economic stress they need our help more than ever. In order to maintain and improve standards no organisation can be complacent and St Joseph’s is no exception. To this end they need to raise funds for a new lift and security system.

I have agreed to act as the focus of this fund raising effort by undertaking the London to Paris Cycle Challenge over three days in the summer of 2009.

This challenge will be my first long ride and my first abroad since taking up cycling (after a gap of 40 years!) to regain fitness following cancer surgery three years ago. At the age of sixty-one this commitment will require many miles of training to develop stamina, speed and the ability to meet time targets – no good arriving late for the ferry to France!
